Lionel Messi continued his incredible goalscoring record with his 700th career goal against Atletico Madrid.
The Catalan giants were desperate for the whole three points as they fight Real Madrid for the La Liga title but Diego Simeone’s men had other ideas as the game finished 2-2.
Barcelona looked sharp in attack and their quick passing gave Atletico different problems to deal with and it was no surprise when they took the lead. Messi’s corner was turned into his own goa by Diego Costa.
Atletico got their equaliser as star man Yannick Carrasco was fouled in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Costa initiay missed the penalty but the referee asked for a replay after the goalkeeper was adjudged to have left his line.
Saúl Ñíguez stepped up and scored the retake. The game from then continued in penalties as Barcelona won theirs and Messi scored with a cheeky penaka.
However, Atletico left Camp Nou with a precious point when Carrasco again was fouled in the box and Saúl Ñíguez again scored to end the match 2-2.
Atletico made strong their grip of third spot while Barcelona could not reclaim top spot as they fell a point behind rivals Real Madrid. And the Los Blancos have the chance to go four points clear if they win their game in hand later today.
